Job Description
Location: US or Canada, Remote (Any City)
At Enya Learning, we are building the infrastructure layer for schools to deliver personalized learning at scale. We believe learning should be adaptive and grounded in how students actually learn.
We are looking for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the U.S. and Canada who:
1- have deep learning expertise
2- are well versed in designing learning, and;
3- bring an awareness of personalized learning research and evolving educational paradigms.
This includes foundational domains like phonics, literacy development, numeracy, and writing. It also includes emerging and interdisciplinary fields such as biomimicry, global citizenship, AI literacy, digital media, systems thinking, and climate sustainability education.
What Defines a Strong SME for Enya
We are not simply looking for subject experts. We are looking for creators and constructors who take knowledge and skills and design them into active and engaging learning experiences. Strong candidates typically demonstrate the following qualities.
Depth and Currency
You have strong academic, professional, or lived expertise in designing effective learning. You are familiar with recent educational research, frameworks, or paradigm shifts. Examples include structured literacy, inquiry based and project-based learning, or AI fluency beyond tools (ethics, reasoning, real world use). You can distinguish between legacy practices and evidence backed approaches.
Learning Centred Thinking
You understand how students process, retain, and apply knowledge. You can break complex ideas into progressive, age appropriate scaffolds. You show sensitivity to diverse learners, especially multilingual students, newcomers and refugees, and students with interrupted or non-linear education paths.
Applied and Practical Orientation
You have experience translating learning theory into lesson sequences, activities or assessments, and real world applications. You prefer usable outputs over abstract theory.
Interdisciplinary Awareness
You are comfortable connecting your subject or grade level domain to others. For example, you might connect biomimicry, sustainability, and design thinking, or phonics, comprehension, and cultural context. You have an openness to non-traditional curriculum structures.
Builder Mindset
You have an interest in co-creating and iterating, not just delivering static content. You are willing to test ideas with real learners and refine them based on feedback and data. You adapt your content to an evolving scope.
Priority Areas of Interest
We are especially interested in SMEs working in or adjacent to the following areas.
Foundational Learning
Early literacy (phonics, fluency, comprehension strategies)
Written and oral communication
Numeracy and mathematical thinking
Future-Ready and Emerging Domains:
AI literacy skills and competencies
Digital and media literacy
Biomimicry and nature-inspired design
Design and systems thinking and complexity
Climate and sustainability education
Cross-Cutting Areas
Social-emotional learning (SEL)
Self-determination skills
Culturally responsive pedagogy
Creative and interdisciplinary learning design
What You Might Contribute
SMEs may contribute in one or more of the following ways (Scope will vary based on alignment, availability, and project needs):
Designing learning modules or experiences
Creating assessment frameworks or question banks
Advising on curriculum direction and pedagogy
Contributing specialized content or domain insights
Supporting pilot programs and iteration cycles
Who This Is Not For
This is likely not a fit if you rely primarily on outdated or passive instructional strategies such as lecture style delivery. It is also not a fit if you are not comfortable with constructivist approaches to teaching and learning or adapting your expertise for diverse K-12 learners. If you don’t believe that today’s agenda for education is the pursuit of greater equity of opportunity for all to realize their human capabilities to be successful lifelong learners, then this isn’t likely a role for you.
Why Work with Enya
You will be part of shaping a system that aims to close real literacy and learning gaps. We serve all students but especially prioritize those learners who are working below grade level and who are often overlooked by traditional systems. We combine human insight with adaptive technology. We build something that can scale across communities while staying locally grounded.
